Part of the non verbal test focuses on finding analogous relationships between pairs, or sets of figures, and to then see parallel or similar relationships between completely different pairs of figures.

A non verbal aptitude test also measures how you divide and organize your ideas into different areas. For example, if you have hundreds of photos you may divide them into dates and subjects to store them for ready access.

How you respond to this section of the test measures your ability for quick, accurate thinking and how you work under pressure. The type of questions you will encounter in this section will ask you to find the object or figure that is different from all the others or does not fit in. You will need to assess the interrelationships to give the correct answer.

Are there any Limitations?

All aptitude and intelligence testing have limitations of some sort, but you have to decide what is important. Limitations of the non verbal aptitude test include:

• Non verbal tests have very few instructions and you need to quickly perceive what you need to do which may be difficult for some people.

• It may be confusing for people whose English is a second language.

• Though different societies have different cultures even at the nonverbal levels, yet most of the nonverbal aptitude tests claim that they are culturally fair intelligence tests.

• There is a criticism that these tests can be useful only for the children in their early ages, as the adults should be judged by their academic achievements or the verbal ability tests.

Practice before you Sit your Test

If you are taking a non verbal aptitude test, make sure you practice interpreting pattern sets and recognizing interrelationships between different objects and how they can link to unrelated sets of objects. Practice dissecting objects in your mind – try flipping them, looking at them from different angles and even put them back together again as a different object.Get online and take as many practice tests that you can to give you an idea of what to expect before you sit your test. Knowing what you will face during the test gives you the confidence to do well on the day.
